Safety rules regarding the use of gas and maintenance of gas installations

Safety
Instructions for the safe use of gas

Maintain and inspect your gas appliances regularly (every year). In the event of a gas appliance malfunction, seek help only from a qualified service technician.

We recommend that you visually inspect the gas installation in your living space once a year. If you notice any defects, you should definitely have them repaired by a qualified gas installer.

Regularly (at least once a year) clean the chimney, ventilation ducts and connecting flue lines, as well as do a flue gas analysis. Entrust all these operations, as well as the measurement and analysis of flue gases, to an certified local chimney sweep. We would like to point out in particular that installed PVC or aluminium joinery, the use of a kitchen hood or any other fans affect the operation of the appliance connected to the chimney, and in such cases there is a possibility of flue gases (CO, etc.) returning to the room, which can cause serious consequences for your health!

When talking about safety, we would also like to draw your attention to the fact that any subsequent modification of the gas installations (including appliances, flue lines or ventilation) and the installation of hoods, fans, dryers, can only be carried out with prior consultation with qualified technicians and with the approval of Plinara d.o.o. Pula.

Smell of gas

Safety measures when smelling gas:
1. Extinguish the flame immediately
2. Open windows and doors immediately, and ventilate the room
3. Turn off the gas supply immediately (close the main gas valve in the gas cabinet or at the gas meter)
4. Do not turn on electrical appliances
5. Do not turn on the electrical switch
6. Do not pull out the electrical plug
7. Do not use the telephone in the room
8. Notify the gas company's emergency service using a telephone from outside the endangered area

Indoor gas installations

Testing existing indoor gas installations is necessary for the safety of users.

The prescribed times for testing the proper working order and tightness of existing internal gas installations are as follows:

Residential buildings - at least once every 10 years (usually when replacing the gas meter)
Legal and natural persons who use gas for heating business premises or technological processes - at least once every 5 years
Buildings with boiler rooms - once a year

Inspection of the proper working order and tightness of existing internal gas installations is performed by the gas company (Plinara d.o.o.), while repairs and modifications to the gas installation are performed by certified gas installation contractors and certified service technicians.

In addition to the gas installation test report, issued by the gas company, it is necessary to have a positive certificate from a certified chimney sweep on the good working order of the chimney and a certificate from a certified service technician on the serviced gas appliance.

After servicing the gas appliance, the service technician is obliged to issue the user with a certificate of the service performed.

Gas appliances

Gas appliances are considered gas stoves, gas boilers, gas furnaces and air conditioners that use gas as an energy source. Gas appliances are serviced by a certified gas service technician.

Gas appliances for general consumption generally need to be serviced every year before the heating season, or according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Information on authorized service centres can be obtained from the gas company or from the representatives of individual gas appliance manufacturers.
